A note from your PTO Board

It has been said that it takes a village and what a village we have at Plympton indeed! This week there has been an outpouring of awesome donations for the Fall Festival Raffle Baskets- from yummy looking cupcake mixes to very generous monetary donations. So many, many of you have opened your hearts and your wallets to support the PTO. As we begin to assemble the makings of the baskets it's like looking at your outward expressions of your love for your children. After all, why else do you do all of these crazy things? LOVE. Love for your kids and the idea of a happy today and a better tomorrow.  The 2016 PTO Board would like to personally thank you for all that you do to love your children, support Plympton and work hard at being amazing parents. We might be biased but we think as far as "villages" go, Plympton Elementary School is the very best. Hope to see all your smiling faces at The Fall Festival next Saturday October 29thfrom 2:00-5:00pm!

Sincerely,
Ghenya, Sarah, Kate, Kelly, and AlexiPLYMPTON FALL FESTIVAL

Vocabulary Day is coming!

Noah Webster, the father of the dictionary, was born on October 16 and in his honor, we devote the month of October to building our vocabularies.
Research shows that students with the strong vocabularies have an advantage in school.  Two ways you can help build your child's vocabulary:
  • READ to them and encourage them to read--reading is the best way to build vocabulary!
  • TALK with them.  Parents who have regular conversations with their children about the world around them help their children to grow the number of words they know and use!
On October 31, we will have an all-school Vocabulary celebration.  All the details are on the library website here.
This page also has links to games and activities that help your child become word savvy!
Questions about this celebration can be directed to Ms. Paradis at JudithParadis@k12.waltham.ma.us

BOKS
BOKS - Week 4.
This week our BOKStars were learning all about Sit-ups!! Doing sit-ups strengthens your abdominal muscles and gives you a stronger core. Why is this important? Not because you need to have a six-pack but because your core helps you in everything you do. Sitting, standing, running, jumping, playing all require the use of your core muscles.

BOKS BIT -
What is a healthy snack to put in my kids lunchbox??? HINT: Try putting it under the faucet - if it doesn't get soggy or disintegrate, then it's good to put it in your body!!

BOKS ROCKS!!

ELECTION DAY BAKE SALEThe Election Day Bake Sale is a long standing Plympton School PTO tradition. Proceeds from the bake sale go towards the PTO's annual scholarship fund which provides a $1500 scholarship to a Waltham High School senior who attended Plympton School. This is possible because of the generosity of our families.
Sign up here http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c45a4ad2ba0fd0-election3 to either donate a baked good or help staff the annual Election Day Bake Sale on Tuesday, November 8th from 7am to 7pm. All baked goods can be homemade or store bought. We are also in need of other food/beverage items for donation. The following is just a suggestion of items needed. Have a specialty? We'd love to share it with our community! Items can be dropped off at the school on Monday afternoon/evening or Tuesday during the bake sale. If possible, it really is helpful to individually wrap your items and please be sure to indicate if they contain nuts.
This is a NO SCHOOL day for the kids but this is a day long event (7am-7pm) and we need all the help we can get to help sell baked goods and raffles-even if just for an hour.  We sell breakfast and lunch items.  This labor-intensive event is run by Jen Renaud and she could use a few people to help secure donations before that day-please email Jen  to get involved: jlrenaud40@gmail.com
Thank you for your support!

ONE HOPE WINE TASTING

Mark your calendars for SATURDAY, November 12th, because we're having a ONEHOPE Wine Tasting!
